I have a 1977 F150 4x4 with automatic transmission. can we change a long tail shaft into a short tail shaft?
the transmission in it is a short shaft and the one we have to put in it is long shaft. Is it possible to change to shaft without causing too many problems in the transmission? it has to be short tail shaft to mount the transfer case.
thanks for the fast answers but, i dont think i explained this right. the trans in it thats bad is a short shaft ( TRUCK IS 4X4) we need to put the short shaft in the new( used 2 wheel drive ) trans. it is a long shaft. it has to work with a transfer case so needs to be short shaft. will the short output shaft interchange ?I guess what i need to know is can we swap them. by the way I am a girl trying to explain this .. sorry for the confusion.
sure you can change it but you will have to use a longer housing for it.
