I am trying to find where power comes from to the brake light swithch?
I get power to the brake light, but i do not getr power when I sterp on brake pedal. I checked back to brake pedal switch, but no power there either. I tried to follow wiring up under tank and lost it. Diagram shows power from fuse box? Is it the Horn?
On many cars, with shared brake/turn-signal lamps, the 12V for brake lights goes 1 wire from the pedal switch, up the steering column then down as 2 wires [L&R] out to the brake lights, the turn signal switch, when moved, interrupts the brake light circuit & connects 1 side [L or R] to the 12V from flasher, that is how the turn signal over-rides the brake light.
So it is possible that the problem is the switch assembly under the steering wheel. But I would first check the large connector at the bottom of the column, the contacts may be corroded. Using the wiring diagram you could pull the connector apart then jump 12V to the left side light circuit [firewall side of connector] if the L/Rrbrake light comes on, then the column switch is bad. If not, then there is a break in the wire somewhere.
However, many newer cars use brake & turn signal relays, so the problem could be a stuck or loose relay, rap on all of them. Check the diagram to see if the switch is switched power or switched ground.
If you don't already have 1, buy a volt/ohm meter [VOM] they can be found for less than $10.
Make-model-year would help.
Take your time, be methodical & good luck!
