Check engine light came on 2001 pt cruiser could it be connected to issue with power steering rack?
took my pt cruiser in to get annual state inspection. car had beend driving fine no problems. meinke tells me that now i need a power steering rack because mine is leaking and failed my inspection. this was on tuesday. saturday my check engine light came on and has stayed on everytime i start the car. like i said the car has been driving fine just had two major repairs this year. a new transmission in march and a new water pump in may so needless to say really not looking forward to a 1000 mechanic bill. could the check engine light be related to the leak in the power steering rack and what exactly does the power steering rack do and how immediate is it to fix it.
I've been told that dodge/chrysler has a sensor to monitor the power steering (which is crazy) and it causes the light to come on.

The power steering rack or "rack and pinion" uses hydraulic fluid to assist you in turning the front wheels on the car when you steer it. It is not an immediate problem. You will just lose power steering fluid, and at the most it will be hard to turn.
You want have to spend 1000 dollars to fix it. Depending on the rack and the labor you will spend about half that (in my area).
