On the basis of the line ribbon Austin Princess (model A135 code) with a body by the coachbuilder Vanden Plas and was a fairly large room or a limousine. This is a very popular model among the general public, most Princesses (Sheerlines And, for that matter) have been purchased for civic ceremonial functions or by rental companies and limousine rental.
The model has been renewed Princess over the years by Mark I, Mark II and Mark III versions, the changes are relatively minor: the body does not changed much, nor the 4-liter straight-6 engine. The heater was old enough right and the car had separate front wings.
During the term of this type (1952), Austin is part of the British Motor Corporation (BMC).
A long wheelbase version tested by Motor magazine in 1953 had a maximum speed of 79 mph (127 km / h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km / h) in 23.3 seconds. A fuel consumption of 15.1 miles per gallon (18.7 litres/100 km 12.6 mpg U.S.) was recorded. The 2480 car test cost, plus tax.

This model lasted until 1959, although then the large version, limousine specialized craft remained in a limited number as Vanden Plas Princess Limousine 4 liters, which survived until 1968. After this period, with many British brands become part of British Leyland, Jaguar-Daimler DS420 Limousine base was proposed under the new range is a bit oversimplified. This was envisaged in 1966 when British Motor Holdings (BMH) BMC and Jaguar had together, and stopped the development of the successor Vanden Plas potential reader. The limo was luxurious with plenty of polished wood, mohair carpet and optional radio controls on the armrest. Among the long list of extras are available monograms and a mast. The carrier was separated from the rear the car for a division with a telephone option for passengers to communicate with the driver. See the driver, was finished in leather, but the Rear seats have been trimmed in a fabric, the standard provision in many luxury cars of the era. To increase seat two occasional seats could be folded on the ground.
The car has independent suspension on coil springs in front with semi-elliptic and anti-roll bar at the rear. The camera and plug type steering had optional power assistance.
A limousine was tested automatic by the British magazine The Motor in 1962 and had a maximum speed of 86.2 mph (138.7 kmh) and can accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km / h) in 23.5 seconds. In 1959, a new Austin A99 Westminster based Princess was launched. These vehicles were quickly modified to carry the name Vanden Plas became a flagship brand of its own engineering (In Instead of being known as the bodywork of cars of other brands). The car was smaller than the period of a princess and was largely identical to the Austin A99 Westminster for other models using the same Pininfarina-designed body. It included a Vanden Plas grilled (rather square, with thick blades surround and vertical), round headlights and horn grills on the front. The interior was sumptuous in typical Vanden Plas with burr walnut, leather seats and panels, and carpets of high quality. A division between the driver and rear compartment was an option. Power was unit 3-liter, 108 hp (81 kW).
A princess with a manual transmission has been tested by British magazine The Motor in 1961 and had a speed maximum of 99.3 mph (159.8 kmh) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km / h) in 16.1 seconds. A fuel consumption of 21.1 miles per gallon Imperial (13.4 l/100 km or 17.6 mpg U.S.) was recorded. The test car cost 1467, plus taxes.
This model has been replaced in 1961 by Princess Vanden Plas Mark II. The style was similar, but the wheelbase is two inches (5 cm) longer and stabilizer bars are added to the suspension at both ends of the car. The engine has been upgraded to 120 hp (89 kW). Best brakes were adjusted, and internal improvements include pop-up "picnic tables" for rear passengers. Options now include "the air conditioning Smith."
This model lasted until 1964.
