Why BlueStone Construction & Project Management, LLC was Formed

BlueStone was formed in February 2005 to serve as a general contracting firm in Minnesota's lake home and cabin industry.  Co-owners Larry McCulley and Jim Raboin had extensive commercial and residential contracting experience prior to BlueStone but recognized babyboomers from Minneapolis to Fargo (and beyond) were inmigrating up to Minnesota's lake country.

There is a real need for long distance lake home owners in remote regions locating expert, creative and trustworthy general contractors who can build lakehome masterpieces no matter how large or small.  And finding one who is skilled in the ever restrictive environmental issues surrounding building at the lake is even tougher.  As a result, BlueStone was created to serve long distance clients who want to build something more substantial at the lake but perhaps don't know who to connect with to get the job done.

Our strategy is simple.  We have assembled a team of quality individuals, craftsmen and supply companies we take with us on every project.  It doesn't matter where your lake property is located in Minnesota or Wisconsin.  This is how we manage the construction schedule and project costs.  It is also how we bring upper end quality craftsmanship no matter how remote the building location.

We even have one customer who has moved up to an island on Lake of the Woods.  Literally all materials will be barged in over summer or trucked in over ice during winter.   Their project is a multimillion dollar endeavor.  It takes real planning and a vivid imagination to build on a rock up there.  And getting the job done at a fair price is even more remarkable.

What is your first step if you are looking for a quality lakehome design/build general contractor?  We tell our customers, "The first step is for you to invite us out to see your lake property."  This is a practical approach.  We need to see the property and all that is entailed with it.  You need to meet your team in order to get acquainted with key individuals from BlueStone.

At your first meeting you will meet our architect, contractor and environmental specialist.  These three players will identify approximately 90% of the issues surrounding your project before the first shovel is stuck into the ground.

For a $1,500 design fee, you will see preliminary design plans from our arichitect that  includes preliminary construction costs from our contractor.  You will also understand what environmental issues need to be addressed before construction permits are issued.

Seeing your team work for you prior to entering into a formal construction relationship is the best way in determining if there is a good fit.  We here at BlueStone know that trust is earned.  That is why we look forward to having the opportunity of serving you.

Global Investing Roundups

MAN AG Buying VW Brazil Unit; Siemens Settles Probe for $2 Billion; Mattel Pays $12 Million for Tainted Toys; Ireland Banks Getting a Bailout; Housing Market Facing Confidence Collapse; Boeing Raises Dividend; U.S. Homes Lose $2 Trillion in Value

  • German manufacturing and engineering titan MAN AG said it will acquire Volkswagen Truck and Bus from Volkswagen AG (OTC: VLKAY). The 250-year-old MAN AG is Europe’s third-largest truckmaker, and this purchase marks its first major South American investment, Bloomberg reported.
  • Siemens AG (ADR:SI) will pay more than $1.3 billion to settle corporate corruption charges that it paid bribes to win major contracts in the United States and Germany. The scandal resulted in the resignations of former CEO Klaus Kleinfeld and ex-CEO and former supervisory board Chairman Heinrich von Pierer, Reuters reported.
  • Mattel Inc. (MAT) will pay to settle a probe that its Chinese-made dolls and accessories shipped to the United States were made with lead paint. The toys never made it to the shelves, but the world’s largest toymaker will pay $12 million to the 39 states in the suit, Bloomberg reported.
  • Irish banks will be on the receiving end of a $13.5 billion (10 billion euro) investment from the Ireland government, MarketWatch reported. The recapitalization plan may take the form of preference or ordinary shares, the government said in a statement. And the list of banks that will receive the cash has not been determined.
  • The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo housing market index remained at nine in December for the second month in a row, indicative of the pessimistic outlook permeating the market. Index readings higher than 50 indicate positive sentiment about the market. It has slumped below 50 since May 2006 and has been below 20 since April.
  • The Boeing Co. (BA) yesterday (Monday) increased its quarterly dividend by 5%, or 2 cents, to 42 cents. The aerospace and defense dividend is payable March 6, 2009 to shareholders of record as of Feb. 6, 2009.
  • Homes in the United States will lose more $2 trillion dollars in value by the end of the year, and nearly 11.7 million American households currently owe more on their mortgage than their homes are worth, Reuters reported yesterday (Monday). "In general, homeowners in most areas we cover are struggling with foreclosures pouring into the market, large amounts of negative equity and dropping home values,” Dr. Stan Humphries, vice president of data and analytics for Zillow Real Estate Market Reports, said in a statement.
