should a transmission not hooked up to a driveshatf spin in neutral?
me and my dad are working on a 57 chevy belair, and we have a SB 350 in the car. were still in the process of getting a driveshaft to be able to finallt drive the car, but we put a 1968 corvette muncie "rock crusher" transmission under the car, with a hurst 4-speed shifter w/ reverse lockout. when we start the car, and the motor is running with the tranny in neutral, should the output yoke be spinning? it spins in neutral, and when we put it through 1,2,3,4 and reverse. i was just wanting to know if this is porper for it to be engaged while in neutral?
could it be spinning cause there is no load on the transmission [by means of driveshaft, rear end, etc...]
Totally normal it's called idle creep. Alot of newer vehicles with drive ahead when started in nuetral and if up on a hoist will spin it's wheels.
